How to Save Our Daughter
A downloadable E-book
Destiny can't trust her own five senses. She doesn't know if the voices she hears are real people talking or a side effect of having too many dopamine receptors in her brain. Her world will suddenly drain out all its color and mist will steam up from the ground turning into a thick fog where all she can see through it are monsters walking by drinking cups of blood.
After nine near lethal overdoses due to command hallucinations Destiny finds herself at Haverford Hospital waiting for a bed to become available at The Jackson Center, a psychiatric residential treatment center for children and adolescents, Bonnie arranges for her records to be sent to The Jackson Center. The Jackson Center adapts a tough love approach with drives Destiny to retreat deeper and deeper into her alternate reality, The Bad Man's World. She is locked in the seclusion room, given the silent treatment, pinned on the floor in restraint holds, and sedated through the central line in her chest.
Then five months into Destiny’s stay Bonnie receives an anonymous phone call informing her that the only records The Jackson Center received came from when Destiny was ten to twelve. This was before Destiny had the words to describe her hallucinations. The records use words like “attention seeking”, “manipulative”, and “passive aggressive”..
Bonnie suddenly comprehends Aliza’s misdiagnosis of borderline personality disorder and the root of their cruel treatment plan. Destiny won’t get better unless she receives proper treatment for her schizoaffective disorder, but if Bonnie can’t get past her fears of authoritative figures and work up the courage to confront the Jackson Center, she will lose Destiny to the mental health system forever.
