Destiny's therapist at BTIS (her therapeutic school for kids with mental illness),explains what borderline personality disorder and childhood-onset schizoaffective disorder really are and why Destiny doesn't have borderline personality disorder, so when Destiny is at Wind Tree Hospital her third time and the nasty social worker Susan Ederson tries to push her parents into sending Destiny into their residential treatment program for teens with borderline personality disorder both Bonnie and Allen immediately tell her, "no way".
Once Destiny is discharged from Wind Tree Hospital, her parents think they have wiped their hands of pesky Susan, but a few day's after Destiny's discharge social services stops by and tries to put Destiny in state care and charge her parents for neglect because they didn't put her in the treatment center. As Mary digs her perfectly manicured nails into the soft flesh of Destiny's delicate skin, Allen announces that they are providing care and that he was planning on calling the Connecticut Department of Mental Health the next day to put Destiny on the waiting list for a psychiatric residential treatment program called The Early Onset Psychosis Program. It is only two months long as opposed to 12 to 18 months.
But what happens when a bed finally opens up at the program and there are several families vying for the spot? It's first come first serve, so Bonnie puts on her supermom clothes and desperately tries to get her there no matter what it takes. The situation has been upgraded to life or death because earlier that day Bonnie found a seltzer bottle half full of broken down medsl and Destiny has gotten so sick from pretending to take her meds than sucking them out with a syringe that Bonnie fears she will lose her only child if she stays home any longer,
