Destiny is in the hospital. Psych Crisis services decided that she needed to be there after she tried to “fly” off the roof of a house three stories in the air. Bonnie, Destiny’s mother, visits Destiny as often as possible. Destiny entertains her mom with stories of the motley crew of girls on the unit. One girl swallowed a popsicle stick whole. The hospital staff called 911 and she was in the ER all day long. Even though she hates The Jackson Center while she was living there, all Destiny wants is to return to her residential treatment center where everything is familiar.
After Destiny is back at the residential treatment center she finds that she is stuck in a rut. Once Destiny returns to the residential treatment center she can’t get herself out of a rut. After the “roof stunt,” she has the maximum amount of consequence time you can earn. It’s impossible for Destiny to work off all her time. Doing consequence time, means no interacting with anyone. It also means she has to stay cooped up in her room or the Quiet Room where she can’t tell apart reality and hallucinations. Without any interactions with other human beings, the voices become much more intense.
Every time she goes to serve consequence time, she ends up earning more. Hopelessness permeates every fiber of her being.
Bonnie is worried about her daughter. They have almost hit the sixth-month mark at the residential treatment center, and if anything, Destiny is getting worse, not better. What is going to happen to her? Can anyone save Destiny?
